I am a physician and patient. Dr. Bender is knowledgeable and thorough. His staff is polite. The office is clean. The wait for a surgical subspecialty office is typical: 15 min to an hour. I like him and would refer my family to him.
I went in because a ER doctor in Lebanon tried to forcefully retract his foreskin. This is a BIG NO. It can cause permanent issues later with adhesion's, and his primary doctor stated because they had done so it may become infected. They did not do it completely because I had to stop them while they were trying.
I will not be seeing this doctor again, as his views have not been updated with new medical fact...but opinion, that probably has something to do with his job as the hospital circumcise doctor. I am extremely disappointed with the waste of time appointment.
He stated a old scare tactic that the natural lubrication(smegma) actually CAUSES penile cancer. This has been disproven. Penile cancer chances for the average male are 0.07%. Rates of circumcision hit 80-90% in the past, but are dropping rapidly now that people know not only the facts of circumcision, but the lack of facts in support. My son is highly sensitive to being touched on his penis because of the ER experience. Regardless, I had to explicitly state this three times, the final time telling him he was NOT comfortable.
I visited Dr. Bender to have my sons bladder checked, as he had to visit an er for holding his urine last week. My son is uncircumcised, and I had all circumcision(world, not just the US) with me on the visit. First off, the foreskin does not separate from the penis until right before puberty, or if the child themselves separate it earlier. 50% of 10 year olds still have not separated the foreskin from the glans. So thats the backstory.
I visited Dr bender to A. see what the problem was in which the first ER visit was for, and B. to ensure no damage was done to his foreskin. I had my research thrown back at me "That doesnt mean anything" without him even looking at it.
